Heartburn Remedies Diet Changes For (🔥 Treatment Of) | Heartburn Remedies Soothe The Painhow to Heartburn Remedies for My 6mo has reflux. Not terrible, but just lots and lots and lots of spit up. We've been using Dr. Brown's since birth. He's still on a size 1 nipple, because it seems every time we test the size 2, the spit up increases. However, as of late, his spit up seems to be increasing. Could having a nipple that's too small be causing spit up? Is there a different kind of bottle you'd recommend? Seriously, any advice with this is appreciated. I'm getting tired of the constant "catch the puke" game.
Note: the only place he doesn't spit up is his (propped) crib. It's bizarre. Everywhere else is spit-up city, especially his exersaucer (which makes sense since he's vertical and leaning his belly against the toy).

My kind was on zantac and he still spit up a ton. No real words of advice besides the usual (burp him, keep him upright, etc) and the promise that YES IT WILL END. Solid foods totally helped!
My son would get breast milk from a bottle when I worked and we never sized up from a newborn nipple. He stopped bottles at one year old and now drinks from straws. Just out of curiosity, if the size ones work why increase? Sorry I know my question doesn't help much in this situation, good luck... In general everything we did was trial and error!
Well, I'm thinking his constant spit up as of late could be because of the size 1. We tried a size 2 last night and it went surprisingly well.... fingers crossed because I'm buying a buttload of size 2 nipples tonight. :)
Lucky you that at some point he doesn't spit up. Both of mine had terrible acid reflux. I tried changing everything, nothing even reduced it till the doctor prescribed zantac. Even then it was a 1/3 of the bottle. Good luck, mine eventually moved on to solids which luckily haven't had too much issue with. But still even now at 4 he has certain times the 1 last update 29 May 2020 when if he is eating and then gets carried away to quickly it comes back up.Lucky you that at some point he doesn't spit up. Zantac hardly does a thing for us anymore. It never helped with the amount of spit up, just his pain level. We give it to him before bed now and that's it.
Doctor's not at all concerned because he's gaining weight like crazy, so obviously spitting up isn't hurting him. It's just annoying. :) We've started some solids (mostly mashed up bananas) and he'll definitely still spit that up. At least that smells better than formula. ;)
My son spit up so much that he once scared a pediatric nurse with the amount of his spit-up. It was normal for him though. We were advised to put rice cereal in his bottle by the doctor that treated him at our local children's hospital (for an unrelated reason, he had an infection at 2 months). It has helped so much. His own doctor is also ok with the rice in the bottle.
Since your little one is over 6 months already, have you tried feeding him some cereal or something solid after his bottles? That may help with the spit up. My older two kids spit up terribly as well, but they got better about it once we introduced solid foods. Solid foods seem to help thicken up the stomach contents which makes it less likely to come back up.
We use Avent Classic bottles. Because of the rice cereal, we've had to expand the nipple a bit so it doesn't get clogged. I get major burps out of my little guy most of the time and if I don't get a burp, he'll spit up a lot.
So my 3 month old had the same issue from birth. I have been using the Avent bottles. I started with size 1 but found out I needed to go down to 0 or she would spit up all the time because it was too fast. We tried Dr. Brown's bottle with the slowest flow one time and it was too fast for her, she immediately spit up. We went to 0 and everything was fine for a few weeks. Then she started to choke on the bottle and cough. I switched to the #1 nipple again and everything was fine until she was 8 weeks old. We had to switch to #2 because she was choking and throwing up again. She's now 11 weeks and been pretty good ever since we went to 2. Long story short, yes they can throw up from it being too slow. Try the faster flow, worst case he'll throw up, which he's already doing... Hope it helps!
If he is gaining weight I wouldn't worry to much about it. Next time you have his peds appointment ask about pyloric stenosis. It is where the valve that opens from the stomach to the small intestines is too thick and food doesn't move along as fast. It causes too much pressure in his stomach and that food only one way to go. All it will take is a quick belly palpation and an ultrasound to rule it out.
You may want to google it. Mayo Clinic should be one of the first results.

Hey, Dr. Dad. Yeah, our doc constantly tells us about the little valve in his stomach, but is not at all concerned about it because he's gaining weight like a champ, and the constant spit up doesn't seem to bother him one bit. It used to, but Zantac helped with that. I'm just being selfish and whiney and sick of being puked on several times a day. :)
This was my story with my little girl, then she had a spot of blood in her diaper and the doc said she might have a dairy (cows) allergy that was passing through my breast milk. Since I cut out dairy= no more spit up.
